Decision Making Does Not Equal Intelligence

AI is amazing at making decisions and that is what makes AI top-of-the-class: it can make different decisions, about the information it will return to you, with the same input. If you ask an AI chatbot the same question over several days, you will most likely get a different answer.

But advanced decision making like this does not equal intelligence. Computers always made decisions. When I write code, that is what I mostly do: if the input is such-and-such, then return a particular output, but if the input is something else, then return something else instead.

An LLM is just using advanced decision making. Rather than a one-for-one, it generates an answer based on the probability of the correct answer within a group of possibilities (it is more complicated than that, but that explanation will suffice for this discussion). That is just fancy decision making. It is not an intelligent machine.
